What is Fascia?

fibrous tissue enclosing a muscle or other organ.
Fascia is the
connective tissue that forms webs or bands beneath the skin to attach,
stabilize, enclose and separate muscles and other internal organs. Fascia has
the ability to move—it can contract and relax on its own. Fascia is intertwined
throughout the body from the foot (plantar fascia) all the way to the eyebrows
(cranial fascia), and is one of the biggest sensory organs in the human body.

Today I’ll give you SOLUTIONS & A RECIPE (below)FOR HEALTHY FASCIA / CONNECTIVE TISSUE and

If you want healthy tissue, to age well and to
have glowing skin, here are the dos and don’ts.
Fascia Dos
& Don’ts
DOS
Fascia LOVES anti-inflammatory foods and these habits:

Animal based omega 3 fat: wild Alaskan salmon,
mackerel and krill oil (see recipe below)
·
Leafy greens: kale, spinach, collard greens, and
Swiss chard (see recipe below)
·
Blueberries
·
Tea: Match green tea and Tulsi teas
·
Fermented vegetables & cultured foods: raw
sauerkraut, kimchee, miso, tempeh, pickles, olives, fermented vegetables, and
kefir
·
Shitake mushrooms
·
Garlic
·
Spices: turmeric, curry, cloves, cinnamon, ginger,
oregano, all spice, pumpkin spice, marjoram, sage, thyme and Italian spice (see
recipe below)
·
Eat REAL food
·
Hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate – did I get the
point across? Muscles and surrounding tissues are made up of 75% water, which
means they need to be constantly hydrated to avoid tissue damage. Dehydration
can lead to faster muscle fatigue, friction in the joints, muscles and
fascia–all of which can severely affect performance. Tip: Aim to drink ½ of
your body weight in ounces of water.

Make mobility a priority – Get a FasciaBlaster session
with Tamara and stretch, mobilize and utilize the movement tools at your
facility you work out at.

Don’t forget about proper nutrition and
supplements – a high-quality omega-3 fatty acid supplement (fish oil) is your
best friend (I love Krill oil). It helps with a number of bodily functions
including a decrease in inflammation, increases in cardiovascular function and
promotes healthy energy levels to name a few.
DON’T’S
Fascia HATES these
inflammation causing foods and these habits:
- · Sugar… surprise surprise surprise J
- · Alcohol… sh*t!
- · Trans fat … bye bye donuts and commercial peanut butter
- · Oxidized cholesterol… no more scrambled eggs or poor quality oils
- · The “No pain, no gain” theory – Mobilizing isn’t always going to feel great but if you are having intense pain, burning, or other weird sensations it is best to stop and seek professional care.
These small little changes help increase your energy,
decrease bloating and improve your overall health and well-being. Not only will
you feel better, but your tissue quality and emotional health will improve too.
Make these changes and you will be well on your way to a healthy life and a
killer body!

Foil-it-Up Baby Recipe
no messy
dishes. just a divine meal.
"divinely anti-inflammatory and booty smoothing"
Salmon with
Shitakes and Ginger-Scallion Butter
Serves 3
INGREDIENTS for foil
packets
3-6 oz. salmon,
skinless fresh water
2 cups spinach,
fresh
2 cups kale, fresh
and stems removed
1 cup shitake
mushrooms, sliced
¼ cup basil,
chopped
Sea salt and Pepper
to taste
Bone Broth (Optional) – ideal
if you have digestive issues, immune issues or bloating
INGREDIENTS for
Ginger-Scallion Butter Sauce
¼ stick of raw
butter, pulse in food processor
2 scallions, sliced
1 teaspoon ginger,
peeled and grated
¼ teaspoon toasted
sesame oil
Sea salt and
pepper, to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Lay out 3 large sheets of heavy-duty
foil. Divide vegetables in 3 and put a
mound on each of the sheets of foil.
Salt and pepper them and top with diced up basil.
2. Put the fish on top of the vegetables; season
with salt and pepper and drizzle avocado oil.
Add a splash of water or bone broth.
Bring the short ends of the fold together and fold twice to seal; fold
in the sides to seal, leaving room for steam.
3. Grill – heat it to medium high heat. Grill the foil packets until the fish is just
cooked through, 10 to 12 minutes. Make
your sauce while packets are cooking.
4. Instructions
for sauce: Put all in a mini food
processor and pulse until smooth.
5. Let the packets set for 5 minutes after
cooking, then CAREFULLY open, serve on plate and put sauce over the top, it
will melt over that warm food and be delicious.
