What if you discovered that the best place to begin your personal pursuit of happiness was at the end of your fork? Well, prepare to polish your silverware. Emerging research from the fields of neuroscience and nutrition reveals that you can stabilize your mood, improve your concentration, boost your brain health and trim your tummy—simply by changing the foods you eat. Why not… what do you have to loose, right?!

Food 1. Eggs – has B12, which is crucial for nerve cells. A B12 deficiency causes irritability, depression and cognitive decline. Then folate and iodine would be another plus, as it’s essential for good thyroid function – and an under-active thyroid leads to lethargy, weight gain and mood disorders. Vitamin D levels are linked to depression and dementia. This is just a partial profile of a standard egg, nutritional powerhouse.

Food 2. Caffeine – causes a rise in dopamine, which is how it boosts confidence, focus and mood. Coffee and green teas are excellent choices. I prefer green tea based on the alkalizing affects. Coffee contains two phytonutrients that function like a class of antidepressants called monoamine-oxidase inhibitors.

Food 3. Wild Salmon – everyone for every illness, condition… have been big proponents of this fish.. eat up! It’s an essential element for happiness. Studies have show that people who live in countries with the highest rates of fish consumption enjoy the lowest rates of depression, bipolar disorder, postpartum depression and seasonal affect disorders… as well as optimal brain function and fat loss. In 2008, researchers found that, in some patients, fish oil can be as potent as Prozac at treating clinical depression.

Food 4. Chilies – they contain a fat-soluble molecule called capsaicin. Our brains are loaded with receptors for capsaicin, which they respond to by releasing endorphins, hormones that have a calming effect while they help raise metabolism and burn calories.

Food 5. Walnuts – it is Mother Nature’s very own multivitamin;: it conations a wealth of trace minerals, macronutrients and vitamins, including omega 3-fats, vitamin E and other B vitamins. Patients suffering from clinical depression often have low levels of vitamin E in their blood.

Trick Tip 1. Eat Protein before and with all carbs – Protein is the most satiating of all nutrients, according to the May 2008 issue of the “American Journal of Clinical nutrition,” and including a source of protein at each of your meals and snacks can help you eat FEWER CARBOHYDRATES and better control your blood sugar levels. If you have weight to release, diabetes or blood sugar regulation issues, eating hour proteins with a carb can help you feel more satisfied and lose weight without feeling hungry. FANTASTIC!

RECIPE IDEA – here is how to get 3 of these foods in one dish: make egg salad with chilies, crushed walnuts, olive oil and dash mustard.  Done!

Creamy Avocado Salad Dressing Recipe that can reduce BELLY BLOAT

Gather your ingredients and a mini food processor and let's get playing in the kitchen.

1. Start by smashing and peeling a clove of garlic and drop in into a mini food processor.
2.  Throw in an avocado.
3.  Add these into the food processor:  1tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar, raw and unfiltered, 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice, 1/4 teaspoon sea salt and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper 1/2 cup Greek Style yogurt and 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil.
4.  Add a little water at a time to thin it out to desired consistency.

Other fun ingredients that you can add in is fresh herb like rosemary, basil or cilantro, roasted tomato or jalapeƱo, spices like curry powder, cumin or cayenne.  I also like to replace the olive oil with roasted walnut oil for variety.
